An exciting opportunity for a Marine Technical Surveyor with ABL (Australasia) Pty Ltd, an ABL Group Company, to lead high‐impact marine offshore projects. This role involves project management, technical leadership, and business growth. Work with expert teams, conduct offshore site visits, and drive excellence in marine operations.
What you will be doing
* Project & Marine Operations: Lead and manage projects, ensuring high‐quality deliverables while supporting marine operations, vessel inspections, and offshore activities.
* Surveys & Risk Assessments: Conduct vessel surveys (OVID, IMCA eCMID, MWS), Dynamic Positioning (DP) trials, FMEA proving trials, and risk analyses for offshore projects.
* Claims & Investigations: Assess P&I casualties, hull and machinery claims, estimate repair costs, and compile detailed reports for clients.
* Client Support & Business Growth: Advise clients on technical solutions, build strong relationships, identify new business opportunities, and convert leads into contracts.
* Industry Engagement & Compliance: Represent the company, stay updated on maritime regulations, participate in conferences, and maintain thought leadership.
* Rig Move Operations: Plan, coordinate and execute rig moves, acting as Marine warranty Surveyor (MWS) and/or Marine/Client Representative for semi‐submersible rigs and jack‐up units.
* Training & Team Development: Mentor and train staff, collaborate with regional teams, and contribute to internal capability building.
* Safety & Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with safety standards, improve work processes, and drive QHSE initiatives across all operations.
* Electrical Assurance: Lead FAT and CAT verification processes and deliver high‐quality electrical analysis and documentation for FMEAs to support safe, reliable offshore operations.
This role is based in Perth, Australia and the candidate should have the legal right to live and work in Australia. Flexibility towards working hours and locations may be required from time to time with a willingness to travel (including offshore) and work within a variety of time zones.
What we are looking for
* Ideally, you have 10+ years of experience in the Marine or Offshore industry, including hands‐on marine representation.
* Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Marine Engineering or Chief Engineer (STCW class 1) with significant Dynamic Positioning, marine survey/maritime consultancy experience.
* AVI, eCMID accredited by IMCA.
* 5+ years of leadership experience in engineering consultancy, particularly in the offshore and marine industries.
* Extensive sea time on OSVs, semi‐submersibles, and/or drillships, including sailing experience as Chief Engineer.
* Experience in rig move operations, including acting as Marine Warranty Surveyor (MWS) and/or Marine or Client Representative for semi‐submersible rigs and/or jack‐up units.
* Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with decision‐makers and manage complex stakeholder interactions.
* Strong technical, operational, and analytical skills, with experience in creating high‐quality technical reports and providing expert advice.
* 5+ years of experience in offshore project management, marine consultancy, maritime claims, and knowledge of vessel and machinery repairs.
* Demonstrated ability to lead teams, share knowledge, and create a supportive, collaborative work environment.
* Excellent communication skills, with strong decision‐making abilities and the capacity to manage multiple priorities effectively.
* Degree in Electrical and Marine Engineering.
* Experience in Dynamic Positioning and Marine Surveying.
* Proven track record in authoring expert opinion reports and maintaining a strong client base in the maritime industry.
