ABC News is looking for a Digital Editor to lead our digital-first Brisbane news production team.
We put the audience first and support our high-performing journalists.
In this pivotal role you'll drive the digital treatment of Queensland stories, ensuring our journalism is original, innovative, and timely.
You'll play a key role in shaping how local news and features are told across digital platforms, while mentoring a talented team of producers and championing ABC values.
The Job
Commission and produce engaging digital-first journalism that is accurate, impartial, and impactful.
Identify and lead coverage of breaking news and key stories with a strong Queensland perspective.
Oversee complex digital content creation, including visual and interactive storytelling.
Use analytics to guide editorial decisions and provide feedback across platforms.
Manage and mentor a team of digital producers, including recruitment, coaching, and performance reviews.
Lead the continual digital transformation of the newsroom, embracing new technologies and change initiatives.
Maintain budget and roster oversight to ensure efficient resource use.
Resolve editorial, technical, and production issues to deliver reliable news services.
About You
You're a strategic and creative newsroom leader with a deep understanding of digital journalism and a passion for telling stories that reflect the diversity of Queensland.
You thrive in fast-paced environments, inspire teams, and know how to deliver impactful content across platforms.
You'll have:
Extensive experience in digital news production, including newsgathering, visual journalism, social video, and interactive storytelling.
A proven track record in leading and mentoring teams, with the ability to manage staff effectively under pressure.
Advanced knowledge of multi-platform journalism and audience engagement strategies.
Strong editorial judgement and the ability to make sound decisions quickly.
Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to build strong relationships across teams and stakeholders.
The ability to source and maintain contacts across a broad cross-section of the Australian community.
