Company A leading renewable energy developer is seeking a Principal Power Systems Engineer to play a key technical leadership role within its Grid Connection team. The organisation is developing a large portfolio of utility-scale solar, wind and battery storage projects across Australia and performs power system modelling and grid connection studies in-house, enabling strong technical ownership across the connection lifecycle. This role will work closely with the Head of Grid, acting as the technical 2IC responsible for delivering complex modelling studies, progressing projects through the grid connection process and supporting negotiations with AEMO and Network Service Providers. You will play a critical role in ensuring projects successfully navigate the connection process and achieve GPS approval, AEMO registration and compliant operation within the NEM. The Role As Principal Power Systems Engineer, you will lead the technical delivery of grid connection modelling and studies across multiple renewable energy projects. You will take ownership of advanced RMS and EMT modelling, support complex Generator Performance Standard negotiations, and help shape the organisation’s internal modelling capability. The role will operate across the entire grid connection lifecycle, from early development and connection enquiry through to commissioning, model validation and AEMO registration. Key Responsibilities: Lead advanced RMS and EMT power system modelling across a multi-GW portfolio of solar, wind and BESS projects using PowerFactory, PSCAD and PSSE Deliver and review grid connection studies across R0, R1 and R2 phases, including system strength, harmonics, power quality and protection coordination assessments Lead preparation of Connection Enquiries, Applications to Connect and grid connection study packages with NSPs and AEMO Support and technically lead Generator Performance Standard negotiations to achieve compliant and optimised connection outcomes Oversee preparation and review of hold point reports, compliance documentation and R2 model validation reports supporting AEMO registration Act as technical authority for grid modelling, reviewing studies produced internally and by external consultants Mentor and support development of power systems engineers, helping build internal modelling capability and technical standards Engage closely with AEMO, Network Service Providers, EPC contractors and OEMs, providing technical advice to development and delivery teams across the project lifecycle Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems focus) Typically 10–15 years’ experience in power systems engineering Strong experience delivering grid connection studies for asynchronous generation technologies such as solar, wind and BESS Advanced proficiency using PowerFactory, PSCAD and PSSE Strong understanding of National Electricity Rules Chapter 5 and Schedule 5.2 Demonstrated experience supporting Generator Performance Standard negotiations Experience progressing projects through R0, R1 and R2 connection phases Strong analytical, modelling and problem-solving capability Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with AEMO, NSPs and project stakeholders How to Apply: If you have the required experience and are ready to take on this exciting position, apply now with your updated CV or call 02 8079 0900 for a confidential conversation.
