Position Summary
We are looking for someone with 7-10 years of progressive experience. You will work both independently and collaboratively, ensuring that all designs meet rigorous QA standards, applicable codes, and industry best practices. In addition to hands-on engineering tasks, you will mentor junior staff, driving efficiency, quality and innovation within our projects.
As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will provide senior technical expertise in design and engineering work across diverse projects in sectors, including but not limited to the following: Government, Education, Sports and Recreation, Aquatics, mid/high-rise developments and Bridges.
You will assist in the leadership and management of the project team, supervising designers and drafters and overseeing the preparation of project documentation such as specifications, proposals, reports and drawings. Liaise with clients and authorities, ensuring high quality to design delivery whilst ensuring compliance to Company quality standards, systems and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
* Meeting all project deadlines, milestones and budgetary requirements as defined by the Project Manager / Principal Engineer, Director or Client
* Oversee and drive the design and analysis of structural components for projects.
* Coordinate with internal broader structural, civil and drafting teams to ensure design integrity and seamless project execution.
* Coordinate with external parties and lead project delivery.
* Maximise project profitability from a design and documentation perspective
* Foster and maintain working relationships with external stakeholders, including clients, sub-consultants, authorities, contractors and developers.
* Review and compile design briefs and proposal documents
* Participate in the project planning process and contribute to the overall direction of the team
* Manage and supervise the design of project documents including: development of conceptual designs; preparation of reports, procurement of detailed design and oversee contract administration
Technical Design & Analysis:
* Efficiently and effectively meet the design specifications of the project and ensure a high quality of documentation is produced at all times
* Conduct advanced structural calculations and finite element analysis, ensuring adherence to codes and standards.
* Preparation of fee proposals, Consultant Advice Notices (CANs), project documentation etc.
Quality and Compliance:
* Ensure compliance with the Company quality standards, systems and procedures, applicable laws, Australian Standards and relevant Authority standards and specifications
* Perform quality reviews to assure adherence to design specifications and safety requirements.
* Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering an environment of continuous learning and development.
* Collaborate with project managers, clients, and stakeholders to maintain clear communication and deliver results on schedule.
Innovation & Problem Solving:
* Identify process improvements and implement innovative design strategies to maximise project outcomes.
* Troubleshoot and resolve complex engineering challenges, ensuring a proactive approach to potential issues.
Qualifications
Education & Certification:
* Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering recognised by Engineers Australia.
* Professional engineer registration.
Experience:
* 7-10 years of progressive experience in structural engineering design, analysis, and project management.
* Demonstrated competence in managing complex engineering projects from concept through construction.
Technical Proficiency:
* Solid understanding of material behaviours, load computations, and structural dynamics.
Soft Skills:
* High level of attention to detail and ability to work independently.
* Leadership abilities and a collaborative mindset.
* Strong problem-solving skills with an attention to detail.
