Associate Professor – Coastal Fisheries & Seascapes
Position Overview
Apply for the Principal Research Fellow (Equivalent to Academic Level D) role at CQUniversity. This position is based at the Coastal Marine Ecosystems Research Centre (CMERC) in Gladstone, within the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.
Base Pay Range
Total Remuneration: A$192,505 – A$210,526 per annum (including salary of A$162,670 – A$177,898 plus 17% superannuation and leave loading).
Fixed-Term: 3 years, Full-Time.
Location
School of Health, Medical and Applied Sciences – CQUniversity Gladstone. Relocation support available.
Key Responsibilities
Lead progressive applied research in coastal marine ecology to support the health and sustainability of tropical coastal ecosystems and fisheries.
Focus on fish and crustacean habitat use, mud crab population dynamics, fisheries management, and seascape-scale ecosystem connectivity.
Secure and manage external funding, publish influential research, and mentor emerging scientists.
Collaborate with industry, government, and academic partners to drive practical outcomes for biodiversity, fisheries health, endangered species, and climate resilience.
Position Requirements
Doctoral qualification with research expertise in seagrass ecological restoration or similar coastal restoration specialisations.
Proven research track record, including publications, conference presentations, and recognised professional achievements with an H-index over 10.
Experience conducting strategically aligned research with a focus on securing external funding and industry partnerships.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams.
Extensive experience in investigative research, including research methodologies, statistical analysis, and preparation of reports and publications.
Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to provide expert advice and build effective partnerships.
A condition of employment: relocation to the Gladstone region.
