Role Summary

The MRI Technologist plays a critical role in delivering high-quality patient care and ensuring the safe operation of our magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems.
\
Job Description:
\

1. Prepare patients for MRI procedures, positioning them accurately and setting imaging parameters according to established protocols.
\
2. Select and implement appropriate imaging protocols for patient studies, performing quality assurance scans as required.
\
3. Demonstrate expertise in working cohesively with cross-functional teams, including radiologists, nurses, and child life specialists.
\
4. Rotate through assigned MRI scanners, adapting to changing departmental needs.
\
5. Participate in occasional overnight shifts and holidays, with the exception of per-diem technologists.
\
6. Confirm patient information, including name, date of birth, medical record number, and MRI exam ordered.
\
7. Manage ambulatory/outpatient patients requiring MRI exams with and without contrast, inserting IV catheters as needed.
\
8. Prepare and administer MR contrast agents, understanding contraindications and responding to adverse reactions.
\
9. Record all relevant information regarding contrast injections in the electronic medical record.
\
10. Instruct patients and visitors on MRI safety procedures, ensuring adherence to safety policies.
\
11. Function as a final checkpoint for patient safety and protocol clarification prior to scanning.
\
12. Identify hazardous system malfunctions, securing areas and removing patients and personnel during emergency situations.
\
13. Perform scheduled quality control procedures on MRI scanners and related equipment.
\
14. Assist Practice Assistant and other department staff with various duties, such as scheduling and transporting patients, taking stock inventory, and filing.
