About the Role
We are seeking compassionate and committed Residential youth Workers to provide safe, stable, and nurturing home environments for children and young people in out-of-home care. This role focuses on delivering consistent, child-centred care that supports each young person's emotional, physical, and developmental needs within a therapeutic care framework.
You will work as part of a supportive team to help children and young people feel safe, valued, and empowered to reach their goals.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide a safe, nurturing, and structured home environment
• Support children and young people's physical and emotional wellbeing
• Implement individual care and behaviour support plans
• Build positive, respectful relationships through active listening and engagement
• Apply therapeutic strategies to support emotional regulation and development
• Assist with daily living tasks including meals, personal care, hygiene, and household routines
• Facilitate participation in recreational, social, educational, and community activities
• Transport children and young people to school, appointments, and activities
• Administer medication in line with policy and procedures
• Maintain accurate case notes, reports, and documentation
• Respond appropriately to challenging behaviours using de-escalation strategies
• Participate in team meetings, supervision, and training
• Ensure safety and wellbeing are prioritised at all times
• Follow incident reporting, risk management, and workplace health and safety procedures
Skills and Experience
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
• Confidence in supporting children with complex needs
• Ability to remain calm, flexible, and resilient in challenging situations
• Household management and daily living support skills
• Positive, child-focused approach to care
• Ability to work independently and use sound judgement
Essential Requirements
• Current First Aid Certificate
• Current Working With Children Check
• National Police Clearance
• Child Protection Screening Check
• Current Driver's Licence
• Experience working with children in care (highly regarded)
Roster & Work-Life Balance
• Enjoy a 7 days on / 7 days off roster
• Work only half the year while maintaining consistent full-time employment
• Ideal for strong work-life balance and extended time off between shifts
