Where you'll be working
SESLHD’s Sexual Health and Blood Borne Virus Service (SHBBV) provides leadership, innovation, and research in the sector. Services within SHBBV are involved in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of Sexually Transmissible Infections (STIs) and blood borne viruses at an individual and population level within SESLHD, as well as four statewide services.
Care is provided via fixed locations and outreach networks to approximately 28,000 clients. SHBBV employs highly skilled staff across nursing, medical, allied health, health promotion, administrative, and technical roles. It is the largest SHBBV service in Australia.
The Kirketon Road Centre (KRC) is a targeted primary health care facility involved in preventing, treating, and caring for HIV/AIDS and other transmissible infections among populations including people who inject drugs, sex workers, homeless individuals, Aboriginal people, LGBTIQ+ community, and at-risk youth.
What you'll be doing
The Harm Reduction Project Officer will develop and support the Needle & Syringe Program (NSP) and other initiatives to prevent transmissible infections and drug-related harms among people who inject drugs in SESLHD.
This role is district-wide, primarily based at Sutherland Hospital and Kings Cross. Responsibilities include establishing new NSP outlets, designing and delivering training, supporting NSP outlets, and engaging in health promotion and community development activities.
The position also involves developing outreach models to identify hard-to-reach populations at risk of HIV and hepatitis C, supporting KRC's Naloxone Program, and delivering NSP and outreach services at KRC/KRC South.
Selection Criteria
Relevant tertiary qualification and work experience
Understanding and commitment to harm reduction and NSP, including setting up new NSPs
Project coordination, management, evaluation skills, and stakeholder engagement experience
Ability to develop, deliver, and evaluate training programs
Knowledge of health promotion and community development frameworks
Strong communication and professional writing skills, proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, data entry, and health systems
Willingness to provide frontline healthcare services in various settings and shifts
Current NSW driver's license and willingness to travel across SESLHD
