Position Overview
Australian Energy Assessments is seeking a Technical Sales Specialist of exceptional calibre to serve as the critical interface between our clients, our assessment teams, and the pathways that enable upgrade implementation. This is not a conventional sales role. It demands the technical authority of a certified home energy efficiency assessor combined with the commercial acumen of a finance professional.
The successful candidate will be expected to engage with clients at a highly technical level, interpreting performance data, regulatory frameworks, and upgrade pathways, while simultaneously structuring and advising on financial solutions that make these projects feasible. Few roles require such breadth: the ability to move seamlessly between thermal performance analysis, appliance efficiency standards, rebate programs, and complex finance structures.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Client Advisory
● Act as the authoritative source of information for clients across all aspects of residential energy efficiency, appliance performance, and upgrade pathways.
● Confidently interpret and explain Scorecard outcomes, NatHERS principles, and thermal performance data.
● Provide informed guidance on heating/cooling, solar PV, batteries, hot water, induction cooking, insulation, draft-proofing, and emerging best-practice electrification solutions.
● Navigate government programs and regulatory frameworks (Victorian Energy Upgrades, rebates, compliance requirements) with precision.
Finance Structuring & Consultation
● Advise clients on the full spectrum of financial solutions enabling energy efficiency projects, including loan structures, equipment finance, green loans, and asset leasing.
● Analyse client needs and align them with tailored finance pathways, ensuring compliance with lender requirements and consumer protections.
● Integrate knowledge of rebate and incentive schemes into financing models, maximising affordability and uptake.
● Maintain a current and sophisticated understanding of the lending landscape across residential and small business sectors.
Client Engagement & Solution Delivery
● Serve as the central liaison between clients and assessors, ensuring all technical queries are answered with assessor-level authority.
● Translate complex assessments into actionable projects by integrating technical recommendations with financing solutions.
● Build and maintain strong client relationships that support both technical credibility and commercial outcomes.
Customer Acquisition (Finance Focus)
● Drive customer acquisition for finance products by identifying, qualifying, and converting prospects into active clients.
● Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of opportunities across residential and small business sectors.
● Leverage technical knowledge of energy efficiency upgrades to position financing solutions as integral to project delivery.
● Achieve growth targets for finance originations while ensuring compliance with lender requirements and regulatory obligations.
Commercial & Strategic Contribution
● Identify and pursue opportunities for cross-selling and service integration across the organisation.
● Contribute to the development of customer engagement frameworks, sales strategies, and process optimisation.
● Deliver on KPIs relating to client engagement, finance conversion, and project outcomes, while ensuring quality standards and compliance are upheld.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Mandatory
● Certificate IV in Home Energy Efficiency & Sustainability AND Certificate IV in Finance and Mortgage Broking OR a minimum of 5+ years of directly relevant experience (technical consulting, energy efficiency, and financial services).
● Deep technical knowledge of residential energy performance, Scorecard outcomes, NatHERS principles, and VEU program requirements.
● Direct experience in financial services, lending, or equipment finance, with the ability to structure, explain, and implement finance solutions.
● Proven ability to communicate highly technical concepts and financial products with clarity and authority.
● Exceptional professional communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.
Highly Desirable
● Background in finance broking, loan structuring, or working with multi-lender panels.
● Experience working alongside accredited energy assessors or within residential construction/energy consulting.
● Knowledge of regulatory and compliance frameworks in both energy efficiency and finance.
● Demonstrated record of driving commercial outcomes in technically complex service industries.
Why This Role is Unique
This position is defined by its dual mastery requirement:
1. Energy Efficiency Expertise — assessor-level technical knowledge, including thermal performance modelling, appliance standards, upgrade pathways, and regulatory compliance.
2. Financial Acumen — the ability to structure, advise on, and deliver finance solutions that align with client needs, lender requirements, and government programs.
We are looking for a Technical Sales Specialist who must be equally capable of explaining insulation R-values, modelling comfort outcomes, and detailing loan amortisation schedules, guiding clients seamlessly from assessment through to fully funded implementation.
