Offer description

Overview

The Business Strategy Officer supports national coordination and continuous improvement of the Defence Work Experience Program (DWEP) by analysing data and interpreting complex information to generate clear, evidence-based advice that strengthens program delivery. The role works collaboratively with stakeholders to map processes, identify risks or inefficiencies, and co-design improvements that enhance governance and national consistency. You will develop program reporting, and provide guidance and training, to support continuous improvement across the team. You will have autonomy to manage your workload and adapt quickly to changing priorities and deadlines.

About our Team

The Youth Policy and Programs Directorate is a strategic centre for youth engagement, comprising three teams responsible for Youth Policy, Youth Pathways and the Defence Work Experience Program. Our teams adopt a One Defence approach and champion Defence's enterprise-wide vision and principles for youth engagement. This includes leading the development and implementation of engagement policies, training and education, and delivering high quality youth programs across Australia. The directorate strives to be an exemplar in delivering the Defence Work Experience Program, and is actively driving the harmonisation of other youth programs across the department. Our programs contribute to the personal and professional development of young people, preparing them for future challenges while providing exposure to the diverse career opportunities within Defence. We support national efforts to increase opportunities for priority diversity groups, including young women, First Nations participants, culturally and linguistically diverse youth, and those pursuing STEM pathways. We support staff through continuous development and encourage innovation, collaboration and solution-focused thinking. Professionalism and creative problem solving are highly valued.
