The Rugby World Cup Australia Local Operating Company (LOC) is searching for a highly capable and passionate Media & Communications Manager to join our team
The Media & Communications Manager will play a key role in delivering the PR and milestone events strategy for Men's Rugby World Cup 2027 (RWC 2027). This position will be responsible for developing and implementing the RWC 2027 PR and communications strategy to maximise awareness, promotion and ticket sales of RWC 2027. This role will be a key member of the Marketing and Communications team, who will be collectively striving to achieve the Tournament KPI's across attendance, viewership and engagement.

About the role
* Work closely with the World Rugby (WR) Global Communications team and the General Manager – Marketing & Communications to develop and implement an effective media and communications strategy to maximise media coverage and ensure proactive reputation management, while mitigating risk
* Manage the development and delivery of the RWC narrative, contributing content and story-telling to promote the tournament
* Conceptualise, create and implement effective earned and owned media campaigns and events to support tournament objectives and support the achievement of key KPIs, including brand awareness and digital engagement, and maximise ticket sales in all host cities
* Work closely with the Global and LOC Ticketing teams to deliver the tournament sales and engagement plan through media and communications support and develop all consumer and corporate communications, and support community engagement initiatives
* Support the planning and delivery of all Milestone events, such as the RWC 2027 Draw, match schedule launch, 2 years to go, 1 year to go, 100 days to go and the Trophy Tour, for example
* Prepare responses to significant issues, particularly related to RWC's reputation and brand, and respond promptly to any enquiries
* Manage all media monitoring, analysis, and reporting
* Work closely with the General Manager – Marketing & Communications to manage the communications and PR budget and drive efficiencies across all key channels
* Manage all fan facing communications, integrating, and collaborating with key partners
* Manage the development and delivery of all tournament publications
* Manage integration with Language Services to ensure the tournament is accessible across all four official languages of the RWC (English, French, Japanese and Spanish)
* Manage the planning and delivery of Rugby News Service at tournament time
* Build an internal communication framework to keep colleagues informed and involved of announcements, communications and activities
* Work very closely with the Marketing and the Activations teams to generate content and communications for websites and social media channels to engage fans and maximise engagement across all key media and event milestone moments
* Work with key event stakeholders (including Host Cities and Rugby Australia) to leverage existing communications channels and events activations
* Report directly to the General Manager – Marketing & Communications and lead and mentor a small team of communications specialists
About you
* You have proven experience and demonstrated success working in communications, journalism or similar, with a record of delivering results in a competitive marketplace
* You have proven experience supporting the successful delivery of revenue/ticketing projects
* You have experience in managing external affairs, corporate media, public relations and reputational issues
* You're an innovative thinker, with a demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic communications and media plans
* You have established media contacts across Australia, with proven ability in gaining positive and ongoing coverage
* You have an expert understanding of modern trends in Australian media and a strong understanding of global media trends
* You have a strong awareness of what drives coverage and consumption across print, radio, television, digital and thought leadership platforms
* You have a passion for generating ideas, great content and storytelling
* You have tertiary qualifications in Communications or similar
* You are an excellent communicator, highly personable and can build strong relationships with colleagues and a diverse range of stakeholders quickly
* You have the proven ability to collaborate with colleagues to effectively deliver on mutual objectives
* You have strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and help drive a positive organisational culture that enables others to perform at their best
* You have meticulous attention to detail, exceptional organisational skills, the ability to prioritise and multitask, and remain calm under pressure
* You are adept at working under pressure in a fast-paced environment, delivering work to deadlines and honouring commitments
* You are flexible to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on event schedules
