We work closely with schools, educators, and other stakeholders to create a community where understanding and awareness of dyslexia thrives.Our values: Respect | Integrity | Inclusion | Courage | ActionYour Role We're seeking an experienced Treasurer on a volunteer basis to be an active member of the Board and to contribute to the strategic direction and effective oversight of the activities undertaken to achieve our vision for all children and young people with dyslexia in Tasmania to reach their potential.You'll work with the Chair, other Board members and Executive Officer to ensure that Square Pegs operates in accordance with good practice, conforms to relevant laws and delivers on its obligations.You'll be responsible for oversight and delivery of key financial and governance outputs, with support from the Executive Officer and Accountant, including:Financial management – oversee the financial management of Square Pegs, including budgeting, financial reporting, legal and regulatory compliance, and cash management.Risk management – responsible for identifying and managing financial risks and ensuring that appropriate controls are in place to mitigate those risks.Board support – provide financial support to the Board, including helping to develop financial policies and procedures, and assisting with financial decision-making.Audit and compliance – work with external auditors to ensure that Square Peg's financial records are accurate and compliant with regulatory requirements.Communication and transparency – communicate regularly with the Board and other stakeholders to ensure that they are informed about the organisation's financial health and performance.Fundraising and donations – work closely with the organisation's governance and other staff to develop fundraising strategies and cultivate relationships with patrons.You'll work with a high degree of independence and autonomy within the broad framework of the Board's strategic plans, policies and procedures.
You may be responsible for oversight of contractors, including the accountant and external auditor.What We're Looking for in You To thrive in this role, you will have:Personal QualitiesPersonal and professional integrity.High level interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well within a team in a mutually respectful and collaborative manner.Sound independent judgement.Genuine interest in Square Pegs and its activities.Alignment with Square Pegs' organisational values.Role specificKnowledge and/or experience in finance, accounting and risk.Sound understanding of a director's legal duties and responsibilities.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to build lasting relationships with colleagues, government, stakeholders, and the community.Analytical thinking with sound judgment to make informed decisions, solve problems, and manage risks.QualificationsWhile relevant qualifications in accounting and finance are an advantage, they are not essential.Conditions Location: Anywhere within Tasmania with the flexibility to travel to attend meetings and events around the state as required.Hours: 5-10 hours per month.Conditions: Volunteer role.
