About The Role

Western Australia County Health Service (WACHS) is actively recruiting a variety of Consultant Psychiatrists with a wealth of professional expertise across various psychiatric specialties including general adult, social and community, old age, child and adolescent, and addiction psychiatry. We are especially seeking candidates who are experienced in delivering comprehensive patient care across a variety of settings, including both hospital and community environments.


About The Pool

Joining the Consultant Psychiatry pool means submitting one application to be considered for multiple positions across WACHS throughout its duration. You can specify your preferred locations as listed below:

The applications submitted via this pool will be reviewed periodically. After the assessment of the applications, the Medical Recruitment Coordinator will contact you to discuss opportunities tailored to you and assist you throughout the recruitment process. If you are not ready to start immediately, your application can be accepted and reviewed to align with your plans. Appointments from this pool are available until 30/09/2027. It is also important to note that to be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector, it is essential that you are an Australian citizen or hold permanent residency status in Australia.


Remuneration

The advertised salary range is based on classifications under the WA Health System – Medical Practitioners AMA Industrial Agreement 2024. Classification and level are determined by factors including qualifications and experience, for a further breakdown of the salary, please refer to the MedCareers advertisement:

* Southern Regions (Year 1-9 – Goldfields, Great Southern, Midwest, Southwest, and Wheatbelt)
o $377,556 - $479,490 per annum (inclusive of base salary, PDL and 11.5% superannuation)
o or $723.76 - $919.16 per session (inclusive of base sessional rate, PDL and 11.5% superannuation)
* Northern Regions (Year 1-6 – Kimberley and Pilbara)
o $526,977 – $626,991 per annum (inclusive of base salary, PDL and 11.5% superannuation)
o or $ - $ per session (inclusive of base sessional rate, PDL and 11.5% superannuation)


Benefits

* Generous Leave Entitlements – annual, professional development, long service, sick leave, and leave for compassionate or cultural reasons.
* Employer‑contributed superannuation – a 11.5% contribution every pay period, building a separate retirement fund (subject to further percentage increases)
* Gratuity Payment – Lump sum payment equivalent to 12 weeks' salary after 3 years of continuous service. After each subsequent year of service, a lump‑sum payment of 4 weeks' salary (specific locations only).
* Range of employee‑sponsored work visas including PR (conditions apply).
* Relocation assistance for interstate and international applicants (negotiated on a case‑by‑case basis).
* Entitled to capped flight pricing between Perth and the region.


How To Apply

As you proceed with your application, there will be built‑in Eligibility Criteria (EC) questions. Please note that there is no need to attach a separate document addressing these questions as there will be dedicated fields to include your responses. The questions are the following:

* Provide a comprehensive summary of your qualifications, training, and applicable experience, and illustrate how you meet the requirements of the position. If you have obtained your qualifications or completed training outside of Australia, provide detailed information on the steps you have taken to become a registered medical practitioner in Australia. (Pertains to EC1, EC2, EC3)
* Provide a detailed explanation of how you effectively contribute as a team member while also demonstrating exceptional leadership capabilities? Please provide specific examples that showcase your strong skills in teamwork and leadership. (Pertains to EC4)
* Elaborate on your experience in or knowledge of rural and Indigenous health, as well as working with clients from a variety of cultures and ethnic groups. Please provide examples that demonstrate your expertise or knowledge in this area. (Pertains to EC3 & EC5)
* Provide an up‑to‑date CV that clearly outlines your experience in chronological order. Ensuring that the duration of employment in each role and any gaps in service are easily identified and explained. This will assist to better understand your career progression and the breadth of your professional experience.

Applications from medical practitioners who hold fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry and RANZCP trainees who are in their penultimate year of training and have completed all their training requirements are strongly encouraged.

Other Conditions

WA Health engages staff in positions of trust and responsibility. WA Health policies require applicants to undertake criminal records screening and integrity checking as part of the appointment process. Referees may also be asked to comment on an applicant's integrity and past demonstration of ethical behaviour.

Please note this recruitment process requires completion of satisfactory Pre‑Employment Health Assessment (PEHA). Any offer of employment with WACHS is conditional on satisfactory PEHA to ensure you are able to perform the inherent requirements of the position. An unsatisfactory PEHA will result in the offer of employment being withdrawn. Please see the attached WACHS PEHA Policy for further information.
