Offer description

As Program Engagement Officer, you will specifically:
Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Work collaboratively as part of a team within a statutory environment to plan, deliver and support young people in youth justice and restorative justice interventions and programs that are consistent with evidence based research.
Identify, liaise and maintain strong working relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders and community partners.
Training, induction and mentoring of youth worker and program staff in corporate and operational expectations. Specific focus upon providing professional development with regards to engagement of youth justice clients, youth worker safety, behaviour management, compliance management, professional boundaries and self-care strategies.
Develop and/or adapt and support the delivery of change-oriented programming (such as the Changing Habits and Reaching Targets - CHART program) through activity-based engagements and interactions.
Assist in the allocation of Youth Worker duties and coordination of Youth Worker timetables.
Monitor, assess and provide feedback on the performance and activities of Youth Workers.
Ensure Work Health Safety compliance specific to youth work practices and activities and responsibility for upkeep of personal protective equipment and consumable stores.
Maintain community service agency relationships through regular site visits and yearly risk re-assessments. Risk assessment of new program designs and provision of mitigation advice and activity planning.
Oversee safety and behavioural induction for new young people accessing youth work supervision and programs services.
Provide supervision and support to young people in accordance with relevant legislative provisions, strategic priorities, statutory delegations, departmental policies, procedures and contemporary best practice.
Develop, implement, and maintain procedures for the supervision and direct care of young people.
Collect and maintain data and client records in accordance with relevant statutory, legislative, policy and procedural requirements, including the maintenance of reports to ensure alignment with strategic and operational requirements.
Contribute to a department culture that ensures sensitive and effective communication with people from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds as well as an appreciation of cultural protocols an awareness of the impacts of historical policies and practices.
