Position Summary
The Building Services Engineer is responsible for the design, coordination and technical management of building services systems including HVAC, electrical, hydraulic, fire protection and energy systems. The role ensures that all building services are designed, documented and delivered in compliance with the National Construction Code (NCC), relevant Australian Standards and project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop engineering designs for building services systems including HVAC, electrical, hydraulic and fire protection.
* Prepare technical drawings, calculations, specifications and engineering documentation.
* Review architectural and structural drawings to integrate building services systems effectively.
Project Coordination
* Coordinate building services design with architects, structural engineers and construction teams.
* Attend design coordination meetings and provide technical advice to project stakeholders.
* Ensure services layouts align with construction methodology and site conditions.
Compliance & Standards
* Ensure designs comply with the National Construction Code (NCC) and applicable Australian Standards.
* Conduct engineering assessments and review shop drawings and contractor submissions.
* Support building approval processes and respond to RFIs and authority queries.
Construction Support
* Provide technical support during construction phases including site inspections and troubleshooting.
* Review installation of building services systems to ensure compliance with design and specifications.
* Assist in commissioning, testing and handover of building services systems.
Performance & Sustainability
* Evaluate energy efficiency and sustainability performance of building services systems.
* Recommend improvements to optimise building performance, operational efficiency and lifecycle cost.
Qualifications & Experience
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or related field
* Minimum 3–5 years of relevant engineering experience in building services design or construction
* Knowledge of Australian Standards, NCC and building regulations
* Experience using engineering design software (AutoCAD, Revit, BIM tools or equivalent)
* Strong problem-solving and project coordination skills
