What you will do as the Lawyer/Senior Lawyer
Manage court and tribunal proceedings involving the AER, including managing external legal providers.
Provide advice on litigation issues and/or on energy regulatory matters and administrative law issues under Australia's energy laws.
Contribute to the ongoing development of the branch as a stand‑alone legal practice.
Develop internal resources and provide training to staff on relevant areas of the law.
About you
Admission as a practitioner, however described, of the High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory. You must maintain a practising certificate issued in an Australian jurisdiction.
Experience as a lawyer (3+ years post admission or equivalent).
Demonstrated ability to get across complex legislation quickly; including a willingness to explore, collect and harness new information.
Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and solve complex problems through strong analytical and negotiation skills.
In addition to the above, the Senior Lawyer also requires:
Demonstrated experience working under general direction when providing legal advice.
Demonstrated experience leading a team or similar role in a fast‑paced and complex people‑centred organisation.
Experience as a lawyer (generally 5+ years post admission or equivalent).
The following job specific criteria are also highly desirable for both Senior Lawyers and Lawyers:
Experience in regulatory litigation, administrative law and decision making, statutory interpretation and/or energy laws is highly desirable. Experience in public sector corporate governance will also be considered.

Salary: APS6 $102,947 to $115,384 per annum (plus 15.4% superannuation), EL1 $127,907 - $159,112 per annum (plus 15.4% superannuation)
