The Reserve Bank of Australia are looking for a dedicated and experienced Senior System Administrator to join our collaborative IT Infrastructure team on a fixed-term contract through December 2026. This role is ideal for someone with strong technical expertise and a proactive approach to systems management and security.
About the role
* Provide expert services in relation to planning, design, testing and implementing server and operating systems across the infrastructure.
* Provide systems administrator/technical engineering support, service delivery, technical problem troubleshooting and proactive maintenance of key operating systems, platform systems, and virtualisation systems in the support of business-critical applications.
* Configure, unit test, administer and maintain the software and related managed applications.
* Analyse, recommend, design, implement and manage changes and updates to the software, including major upgrades, security features, patches, and minor version updates, customisations and configurations.
* Actively participate in the management of all stakeholders, delivery partners and customers to ensure that technical support and issue resolution is provided and high quality customer service is delivered
* Actively seek, create and execute opportunities for business process improvements as well as improvements insecurity measures, standards and best practices aimed at enhancing the availability, security and performance of solutions across the systems.
* Support the delivery of the Bank's Technology Roadmap and technical projects involving related systems.
* Plan for system upgrades and implementation of new versions of software and applications.
* Continuously improve systems to enhance user experience, operate efficiently, and cost-effectively, including maximising automation and orchestration of implementation and ongoing operations.
About you
* Minimum 5+ years of experience in system administration or infrastructure management in enterprise environments, with a strong emphasis on VMware vSphere.
* Proven hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, including ESXi, vCenter, VM lifecycle management, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
* Solid expertise in Windows Server and RHEL administration, including system configuration, patching, and integration within virtualised environments.
* Strong proficiency in scripting and automation using tools such as PowerShell, Python or Terraform to manage and optimise infrastructure.
* In-depth understanding of networking concepts, security best practices, and identity/access management in virtualised and hybrid environments.
* Relevant certifications such as VMware VCP, Red Hat RHCSA/RHCE, Microsoft or ITIL are highly regarded
Qualifications:
* A bachelor's degree in IT, finance, business or other relevant discipline.
* Willingness to maintain or undertake provided training to acquire IT and industry-related certifications as products are updated/released
