As Coordinator, Animal Technical, you will provide expert leadership in animal husbandry. This position would be looking for someone with demonstrated fine motor skills, complex breeding programs and advanced technical procedures across regulated and specialist research environments supporting UQBR TASQ servicesWorking with a high degree of autonomy, you will partner closely with researchers, students and facility leadership to ensure best-practice animal welfare, biosecurity and regulatory compliance. Your expertise will directly contribute to the delivery of ethically sound, scientifically robust research outcomes, while also shaping capability across the facility through staff supervision, training and mentoring.Come apply your technical depth, problem-solving capability and leadership skills in a role that is integral to UQ's research mission and the continuous improvement of animal research operations!**Key responsibilities will include**:* Lead and deliver best-practice animal husbandry, welfare and complex breeding programs across regulated research environments, ensuring full compliance with animal ethics, biosafety and biosecurity requirements.* Provide advanced reproductive technical expertise to support research activities, including specialised procedures, health monitoring, sample collection and the administration of restricted drugs in line with regulatory standards.* Supervise, train and mentor staff, students and researchers, building capability and ensuring consistent application of operational, ethical and regulatory requirements.* Support the effective operation of the facility by contributing to training materials, service planning and service level agreements, and working autonomously within specialised research environments.This is a full-time, fixed-term position until March 2027 at HEW Level 6.# **About You*** Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent extensive experience in animal technology or a related field, with demonstrated depth of technical expertise in a research environment.* A strong commitment to best-practice animal welfare, husbandry and ethics, supported by sound knowledge of biosafety, biosecurity and regulatory compliance.* Proven experience managing complex breeding programs and supporting research projects through effective planning, accurate record-keeping and problem-solving.* Collecting and working with rodent reproductive tissue, and experience with IP dose administration.* Demonstrated capability to work independently in specialised and highly regulated facilities, with the flexibility to adapt to varied research settings.* Experience supervising, training and mentoring staff or students, with a clear focus on building capability and sharing technical expertise.* Well-developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, enabling effective collaboration with researchers, students and operational leaders.The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia, criminal check and medical clearance.You must maintain unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply.
