Your Role’s Unique Value As the NOW Finance inhouse Legal Counsel on a 10-month contract to cover parental leave. In this role you are responsible for providing practical legal support under the guidance of the General Counsel, ensuring adherence to consumer lending regulations. This includes assisting with contract review and drafting, supporting commercial negotiations, managing legal risk, and helping to implement efficient legal processes. The role offers broad exposure to legal issues within the consumer lending industry and the opportunity to work closely with internal stakeholders, contributing to strategic projects and the company’s ongoing growth.
This role will be suited to a candidate with 1-3 years’ experience, preferably within the financial services sector. You will work closely with our General Counsel/Company Secretary who will provide mentorship on a range of interesting matters. You will also assist in implementing and maintaining our current frameworks, policies, and procedures, engaging with internal stakeholders to address legal queries and contribute to the identification and mitigation of legal risks.
Your Role Accountabilities
Conduct legal research and analysis on matters related to consumer lending and financial services.
Assist in drafting, reviewing, and updating legal documents, including contracts, policies, and training materials.
Support the monitoring of regulatory changes and assist in ensuring company compliance with applicable laws.
Collaborate with the compliance team to integrate legal requirements into business operations.
Participate in internal audits and reviews to assess compliance with legal standards.
Aid in the preparation of reports and documentation for regulatory bodies, as required.

1-3 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within financial services or a regulated environment.
Familiarity with consumer credit laws, including the National Consumer Credit Protection (NCCP) Act and Anti-Money Laundering/Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) regulations.
Experience in drafting and reviewing legal documents and contracts.
Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent legal qualification.
