Task & responsibilities
* Create and design menus.
* Develop new recipes and improve existing ones based on customer preferences and seasonal availability.
* Oversee all aspects of the kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, and plating.
* Monitor portion sizes and waste to control food costs.
* Lead and manage the kitchen staff, including cooks, and kitchen assistants and discuss food preparation issues with the head chef and kitchen team.
* Experiment with new cooking methods and presentations to enhance the dining experience.
* Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and taste.
* Manage inventory of ingredients and kitchen supplies.
* Order ingredients and supplies as needed, maintaining relationships with suppliers.
* Control food costs by minimizing waste and optimizing the use of ingredients.
* Work closely with the other chef to run kitchen operations smoothly and assist in setting and managing the kitchen budget.
* Plan and execute special menus for events, functions and catering services.
* Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practice
Qualification & experience
* Cert IV or diploma level qualifications in related field
* Minimum one to two years of previous experience working in a commercial kitchen or similar hospitality environment.
* Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene standards.
* Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
* A team player with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
* Excellent time management and organisational skills.
* Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
* Passion for hospitality and delivering high-quality food experiences.
