About the team
SafeWork NSW Construction directorate has a strategic approach to supporting a safe, healthy and productive construction industry in NSW. Construction provides a strong and consistent focus on building industry capability through strategic stakeholder engagement, evidence and risk-based harm prevention initiatives, and proportionate and targeted regulator response to construction incidents and requests for service.
Ideal candidate
This opportunity would suit someone with the ability to take a leadership role for a high functioning operational unit, support the activities of a multidisciplinary team responsible for the implementation of front-line services and programs supporting health, safety and return to work strategic direction in the dynamic NSW Construction sector.
Responsibilities
As an Assistant State Inspector in Construction, you will be responsible for providing the NSW communities with strong regulatory service to proactively engage and influence key industry stakeholders.
* You will work with the construction industry, associations, unions, the community and government agencies in response to and prevention of workplace injury and illness incidents arising from construction work.
* You will play a pivotal role in working with, and building the capability of, internal and external stakeholders and customers.
* You will utilise your high-level leadership, industry knowledge, project management and stakeholder engagement skills to develop and implement state-wide strategic industry initiatives in the construction industry.

* Establish performance outcomes and measures for key project goals, and define monitoring, reporting and communication requirements.
* Monitor the completion of project milestones against goals and initiate amendments where necessary.
You will:
* Work a 38-hour working week, including some weekends and participate in the After-Hours Emergency Response Service.
* Receive an attractive salary package along with the required tools of the trade, including a vehicle with access to private use (currently at a cost of approximately $227 per fortnight).
* Be able to access flexible working conditions within operational requirements.
Essential requirements
* Diploma in Government (Workplace Inspection) plus additional competencies as defined in the Inspectors Memorandum of Understanding.
* Satisfactory criminal record check.
* Satisfactory medical assessment capacity in regard to physical and psychological impacts of the inherent duties of the role.
* Regular travel throughout NSW with occasional inter-state travel. Employees are expected to hold a valid driver's licence throughout employment.
* Appointment and ongoing assignment may be subject to restrictions and the satisfactory participation in mandatory pre-employment and ongoing probity screening, in accordance with relevant legislation and or related policies.
