The department is responsible for ensuring that projects meet design specifications and are safe for use in public areas, staff-only zones, and enclosures.The Artist collaborates with a team of Artists, General Labourers, and Trade Qualified Labourers to meet project deadlines. They are responsible for the safe construction of habitats, displays, and sculptures, working closely with the wider Zoo team.To succeed in this role, you must understand Australia Zoo’s Vision, Mission, and Goals, as well as its policies and procedures. You should be capable of working within and leading a team of tradespersons.Duties Include:Construct and assemble projects under the guidance of senior management and department heads.Create designs and prototypes for approval by senior management and stakeholders.Select appropriate subjects and mediums for each project.Prepare artistic materials.Design animal enclosures in collaboration with department heads.Sketch designs and build scale models for prototypes.Carve, model, and assemble materials to support the team’s work.Work collaboratively with the Artwork department, department heads, and species coordinators to meet project expectations.Operate power tools and equipment safely, adhering to Workplace Health and Safety standards.Maintain a clean and safe workspace, following housekeeping guidelines.Operate and maintain machinery.Keep records of observations, stock levels, and maintenance logs.Communicate ideas and issues to senior management.Be familiar with all zoo emergency procedures.Maintain relevant vehicles and trailers.Assist with general maintenance of facilities, fences, and signage around the Zoo.Construct frameworks for artwork development.Read plans and specifications to determine materials, dimensions, and installation procedures.Install metal and timber artworks across the Zoo.Maintain and sharpen tools as needed.Participate in safety checks within your work area.Assist with carpentry and general labouring tasks when required.Essential Criteria:Hold a current Driver’s Licence.Be available full-time, including weekends, public holidays, and school holidays.Possess artistic ability and a passion for creating artwork and sculptures.Experience with natural-themed painting.
