AUSTIN GROUP - Support Office, 1320 Malvern Rd, Malvern, Victoria, Australia Req Friday, 16 May 2025 The Role We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Garment Technician to join the team at our Support Office in Malvern! Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, you will be primarily responsible for developing garment specifications from sample development to bulk production. Your focus will be on achieving on-time sign-off of all products and managing our external suppliers to ensure the expected quality standards are maintained throughout the bulk production process. This hands-on role involves all aspects of development and production, working closely with internal stakeholders to create ranges for our retail and wholesale divisions, supporting the growth of our brand's commercial direction. The ideal candidate will have strong skills in garment construction, fit, and manufacturing, with an exceptional understanding of finished product quality. Responsibilities include: Interpreting garment designs and developing garment specifications. Collaborating with the Product Development Team to understand the product brief for upcoming ranges. Creating accurate specifications and inputting all relevant garment construction and fit details into Technical packs. Briefing external suppliers with Technical packs, ensuring clarity and understanding for efficient sampling. Coordinating fittings as needed. Flagging ongoing issues with suppliers, test houses, or testing standards to the QA and Technical Manager. Managing all BSR items to ensure consistency across deliveries and seasons. Managing timelines to ensure on-time garment sign-off for bulk production. Assisting the Product Development team with product information on new styles, construction, and quality. Providing support on garment fit, construction, and fabrics throughout the season. Communicating quality standards to the supply base. Reviewing performance issues seasonally and implementing improvements. To be successful, you will have: Relevant tertiary or related qualifications preferred, with 5-10 years experience in menswear product areas. Experience creating and communicating garment specifications to offshore suppliers. Proven garment construction and pattern-making skills in menswear. Experience negotiating with offshore suppliers. Strong understanding of garment manufacturing processes. Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel) and graphic applications like Illustrator. Exceptional communication skills. Strong organizational skills to meet deadlines. Willingness to streamline procedures and systems. Proactive problem-solving skills. Commercial acumen with results-driven focus on budgets, margins, and profits. A positive, proactive attitude.
