Senior Network and Security Engineer

About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced and hands-on Senior Network and Security Engineer to join A complex enterprise IT environment. This is a crucial role focused on securing our infrastructure through expert design, implementation, and management of next-generation firewall, load balancing, and routing technologies.
You will be responsible for translating complex business requirements into robust, compliant technical security solutions, with a strong focus on using automation to drive efficiency. This role demands a senior engineer who is equally comfortable writing low-level design documents and executing hands-on configuration changes in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Security Architecture & Design: Develop and document low-level designs for enterprise security architecture, ensuring compliance with internal standards and external regulations.
Next-Gen Firewall Management: Perform hands-on configuration, build, routing integration, and security policy analysis on Juniper SRX and Fortinet (FortiGate) firewalls.
Load Balancing & Application Delivery: Design, build, and implement solutions using F5 LTM, GTM, and APM to ensure high availability and secure application access.
Advanced Routing & Switching: Configure and manage enterprise switching and routing protocols, including BGP, OSPF, VXLAN, VTP, and BFD.
Security Automation: Leverage scripting skills (Python, JSON, Ansible) to automate configuration changes, policy deployment, and compliance checks.
Monitoring & Compliance: Configure, implement, and analyze IDS/IPS policies. Utilise logging and monitoring platforms (Splunk, Elastic, Netscout, SolarWinds) for event analysis and proactive security posture.
Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a technical subject matter expert, converting complex business requirements into actionable technical designs and presenting solutions to internal teams.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential Requirements:
Minimum 8+ years of hands-on experience in complex, large-scale enterprise IT environments.
Robust, recent, and demonstrable experience with both Juniper SRX and FortiGate firewall platforms.
Expertise in F5 Load Balancing across LTM, GTM, and APM modules.
Deep knowledge of IP routing protocols, specifically BGP and OSPF.
Proven ability to develop and use Python/Ansible for network and security automation.
Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork.
Ability to manage pressure situations and prioritise delivery across multiple concurrent tasks.
Desirable Qualifications:
Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Fortinet NSE 7/8, JNCIE-SEC, CISSP).
Experience with cloud security concepts and architecture (e.g., AWS, Azure).
Previous experience working within the financial services or a highly regulated industry
