Retail Counter Operator – Australia Post, Tattslotto & Newsagency
Casual, approx. 25 hours per week (with opportunity to increase over time)
About the Position
We are seeking casual staff to join the team at two friendly, community-focused Post Offices in Southern Tasmania, Margate Post Office and Blackmans Bay Post Office.
Both outlets provide Australia Post services, Newsagency, Tattslotto, Lottery products, and Giftware to their local communities every day.
This is a casual position offering approximately 25 hours per week, with a genuine opportunity to grow hours and responsibilities over time. We welcome applicants from the Kingborough area and all nearby suburbs who are looking for rewarding local employment close to home.
The Opportunity
We are looking for friendly, reliable and detail-oriented Retail Counter Operator to join our teams. As the face of the business, you will serve customers across all areas including Australia Post, Newsagency, Tattslotto, lottery and giftware, while maintaining the high standards our communities expect.
Key Responsibilities
- Process domestic and international mail and parcel lodgements
- Sell postage/packaging products
- Handle bill payments, money orders and Bank@Post transactions
- Process parcel pickups
- Maintain mail security, privacy and compliance with Australia Post standards
- Lodge newspaper/magazine returns as needed
- Process all lottery ticket sales including paying out winning tickets accurately and securely
- Process giftware, newsagent items and returns vis POS system
- Manage end-of-day reconciliation and cash balancing
- Keep the retail area stocked, tidy and merchandised
General Duties
- Deliver excellent customer service with a friendly, helpful and professional manner always
- Build genuine, rewarding relationships with regular community customers
- Handle cash and EFTPOS transactions accurately across all areas of the business
- Promote products and services through up-selling, cross-selling and merchandising
- Assist with general administrative and retail duties as required
About You
Essential Requirements
- Australian citizen - required to obtain and hold an Australia Post retail licence
- Aged 18 years or over
- Physically fit to lift 18kg of mail and to stand for the duration of your shift
Experience & Skills
- Experience in customer service and/or cash handling (retail or similar environment preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all transactions
- Friendly, enthusiastic and reliable with a genuine love of working in a team environment
- Well-organised with the ability to manage multiple tasks during busy periods

Pay: $33.19 – $36.59 per hour
