Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the Staff Specialist position in the Western Sydney Local Health District. This position will be primarily located at Westmead Hospital within the Department of Renal Medicine.
This appointment is for a Fixed Term period from 20 April 2026 to 31 January 2027.
Successful applicants must have extensive experience in living and deceased donor kidney transplantation and access surgery, including vascular access and peritoneal access surgery. They will provide access surgery to the large dialysis population of WSLHD. It is expected that the successful candidate will participate in both the kidney transplant roster as well as deceased donation surgical roster. The successful candidate will also contribute to the academic activities including research and teaching within WSLHD transplantation and vascular access surgery.
The Transplant unit provides a National service for Pancreas Transplantation, as well as a regional service for Kidney Transplantation. It performs over 120 transplants per year with regular live donors as part of this program.
Applicants must have Australian Fellowship/Specialist Registration at time of applying.
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
Selection Criteria
1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of the Surgeons or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable).
2. Sound clinical knowledge in transplantation and retrieval surgery (pancreas and kidney) demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.
3. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
o High level interpersonal and communication skills.
o Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
o Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.
o Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision
4. Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.
5. Research experience in transplantation medicine and surgery is desirable.
