Purchasing Assistant
About the Role
Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Purchasing Assistant supports the management of product ranges, supplier relationships and purchasing operations across the business. This role plays a key part in ensuring Chef's Hat maintains strong product availability, accurate data, competitive pricing, and a high standard of customer and supplier service.
This role is perfect for someone organised, proactive, detail-oriented and eager to learn within a fast-paced wholesale/retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date product information, pricing, and supplier details in internal systems.
* Assist with raising purchase orders, tracking stock levels, and managing backorders or out-of-stock situations.
* Support supplier relationships by communicating regularly, gathering product details, and following up on pricing, lead times, and queries.
* Help identify gaps in the product range, review competitor offerings, and assist with introducing new products.
* Work closely with sales, warehouse, and management teams to share information, resolve issues, and support smooth day-to-day operations.
Skills & Experience
Preferred:
* Tertiary qualification in purchasing, supply chain or similar
* Experience in a purchasing or procurement role
Required:
* Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
* High attention to detail and accuracy
* Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
* Strong organisational and time-management abilities
* Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work both independently and within a team
