Fixed Term Full‑time Position

Fixed term, full-time position ending 3 December

* $173,635 - $191,099 (ALD) / $223,135 (ALE), plus 17% superannuation. Based at the Bentley Campus, Perth, WA. The successful candidate may be appointed at the ALD (Associate Professor) or ALE (Professor) level.

About the Role : The role of Faculty Course Lead, Engineering within the Faculty of Science and Engineering offers a collaborative opportunity for academic staff passionate about shaping the future of Engineering education.

The Course Lead, Engineering will be at the forefront of academic innovation, responsible for supporting course teams in the development, implementation, and continual enhancement of an impactful and rewarding degree experience.

This role is pivotal in ensuring that our undergraduate and postgraduate Engineering courses provide an exceptional student experience and uphold the highest standards of academic excellence and relevance.

With the Dean of Engineering, the Course Lead, Engineering holds a central role in leading professional accreditation processes (particularly through Engineers Australia) at Perth and Kalgoorlie campuses, as well as Global campuses in Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Dubai.

Leadership in this role involves fostering the vision for undergraduate and postgraduate Engineering education, creating a collaborative and inspiring environment across multiple Schools and campuses, ensuring that the curriculum remains aligned with Faculty and University strategic priorities, student expectations, and industry needs.

The Course Lead will be instrumental in creating a cohesive, engaging and well‑informed experience that nurtures student wellbeing and enables success across academic, social, and personal growth dimensions, ensuring a seamless transition into and through University education.

In addition to guiding the academic efforts, the Course Lead plays a critical role in bridging the administrative and strategic elements of course management.

This includes overseeing quality assurance and professional accreditation processes, guiding curriculum design incorporating educational scholarship, and working closely with various stakeholders to ensure that the course meets academic best practice and industry expectations.

This leadership role is integral to the Faculty's mission of delivering transformative education and requires a dynamic individual with a passion for academic excellence and a commitment to student success.

Responsibilities

* Supported by Deputy Course Leads and in consultation with the Dean of Engineering, Faculty Executive Team, Faculty and School Learning and Teaching leaders, and central support areas, responsible for effective and collegial course leadership and coordination of the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and the Master of Professional Engineering.
* Provide visionary leadership in course development, curriculum design, and teaching practices ensuring that our Engineering courses reflect the latest discipline‑specific best practices and pedagogical innovation.
* Support the implementation of University, Faculty, and School teaching and learning strategies, ensuring that Engineering courses remain at the forefront of educational excellence.
* Cultivate a collaborative environment within course teams, across multiple organisational units, encouraging shared responsibility for student progress and achievement.
* Lead quality enhancement initiatives, including comprehensive course reviews and Engineers Australia professional accreditation cycle, to ensure the course remains relevant and of the highest quality.
* Work closely with Schools and Global Campuses to maintain alignment between unit and course outcomes, ensuring a seamless and integrated learning experience for all Curtin students.
* Monitor key metrics related to course quality and the student experience, using this data to inform decisions that enhance the course.
* Actively promote the course through recruitment efforts, presentations and events, ensuring prospective students have a clear understanding of the opportunities.
* Regularly review and adjust the course's strategic fit, target markets and recruitment strategies to align with the Faculty's long‑term goals.
* Lead efforts to create an exceptional first-year experience that supports students' academic, personal and social growth.
* Provide high‑quality, student‑centred academic advice and advocacy, ensuring students are supported throughout their studies and beyond.
* Chair relevant Boards of Examiners and determine the level of Honours Awards as required.
* Build and maintain relationships with professional, industry and community bodies to enhance the course's reputation and ensure it meets the needs of the broader community.
* Represent the course at meetings of relevant School Advisory Boards and provide relevant documentation as required.


Qualifications & Experience

* Doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline.
* Evidence of an exceptional and ongoing contribution to Engineering education scholarship, evidenced by citation indices, major international textbooks, prestigious awards, elections to learned academies or professional bodies.
* Demonstrated leadership in Engineering education and engagement with the national Engineering education community.
* Demonstrated high‑level communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to foster a collegial and supportive working environment and interact with students and staff with cross‑cultural sensitivity.
* Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant policies, procedures and legislation in the day‑to‑day performance of this position.
* Demonstrated experience in engagement with professional accreditation through Engineers Australia across the accreditation cycle.


Role Requirements

As this is a fixed‑term contract, applicants must have current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role to be considered.
