Selection will be made at the REG or SREG level depending on the experience of the successful applicant.

Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospital are the principle tertiary hospitals within the region and provide a broad range of referral services in all specialist areas to Darwin, the Top End of the NT, Western Australia and South-East Asia.

Currently, Division of Medicine is accepting applications for several roles of Geriatric Trainee Registrar / Advanced Registrar starting in February 2026.

Under the guidance of Associate Professor Nadarajah Kangaharan, also known as Dr. Kanga, Co-Director of Medicine, your role involves enhancing the management and clinical care of referred geriatric patients. This includes actively engaging in a specialised training program, offering clinical supervision to Junior Medical Officers and staff, and ensuring efficient patient care.

Rotating between Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospitals, you will provide multidiscipline ambulatory and specialist care, and specialist advice on the management of geriatric patients including the admission, management and discharge of patients under the supervision of the specialist geriatricians.

In addition, you will be required to assess and admit patients with frailty presentations / acute medical problems from the Emergency Department, provide specialist reports and participate in continuous medial education, professional development, peer review, research and quality improvement activities.

To be successful you require eligibility for appropriate registration with the Medical Board of Australia, have successfully completed the requirements for admission to a fellowship of a recognised specialist training college, have high-level interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality care to patients.
