About the role
The Community-Based Health and First Aid program (CBHFA), isa health and hygiene education program run to improve health outcomes in communities. Based within the prison system, the program takes a peer education approach around topics like first aid, hygiene, and disease to improve health within correctional facilities.
The program focusses on making the Correctional centre safer and healthier environments for everyone while also empowering participants to develop their skills and knowledge to successfully transition into the community post release. Specialist Status Volunteers are trained and supported by Red Cross workers to develop and implement centre "community" initiatives that improve health, safety and wellbeing of women in Townsville Women's Correctional Centre. The volunteers work with prison management, staff and stakeholders to implement initiatives to improve the health, wellbeing and safety of the prison community (staff, prisoners and visitors).
Key responsibilities
* Coordination of the day to day operational aspects of the CBHFA program
* Responsibility for a team, including supervision, professional development, maintenance of professional standards and best practice service delivery
* Provide support and assistance to program participants with high or complex needs
* Facilitate training and workshops with a diverse range of stakeholders
You will bring
* Relevant degree with relevant experience in social work or community services or equivalent or less formal qualifications with specialised skills in relevant field
* Ability to establish and maintain cohesive working relationships with a broad range of services and stakeholders as it relates to a Correctional environment
* Demonstrated experience working within correctional services delivering a range of programs and services to prisoners
* Experience and demonstrated skills in program design and delivery/facilitation of education, training and group work
* Well developed communication,critical thinking, and decision-making skills
* Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, including the ability to facilitate workshops, present training, strengthen existing internal and external relationships and build new strategic connections
