About the role
As the Track Inspector, you are integral to the success of V/Line's Assets & Maintenance Group. You will work under the direction of the Ganger/Track Supervisor and be responsible for the safety, maintenance and inspection of an allocated section of track.
Key Accountabilities
* Track Inspection & Monitoring - Inspect and monitor rail wear, rail creep, flooding, joint condition, and buckles; repair minor issues during inspections if required.
* Reporting & Documentation - Submit detailed reports on renewal or rail infrastructure maintenance items, complete compliance records, timesheets, and requisitions.
* Maintenance & Repairs - Supervise and participate in the replacement or renewal of track work materials (sleepers, rail, ballast, fastenings); assist in repairs and maintenance of crossings, drainage, earthworks, and other infrastructure assets.
* Safety & Compliance - Ensure all work is performed in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety Standards and Regulations; monitor third‑party works for rail safety compliance.
* Third-Party Oversight - Monitor activities on leased property to ensure works do not affect rail infrastructure safety.
* Environmental Awareness - Implement site environmental management plans and comply with environmental regulations.
* Technical Knowledge - Apply understanding of rail safety standards, codes of practice, and regulatory requirements during inspections and maintenance activities.

Qualifications
* Successful completion of Certificate II – Rail Infrastructure.
* A current valid driver's licence.
* Current Track Safety Awareness (TSA) and Rail Industry Worker (RIW) card.
* Understanding of rail safety standards, codes of practice, and regulatory requirements.
