Specialist Equine Surgeon Job Victoria - 221,888SB2
A leading equine veterinary hospital in regional Victoria is seeking an experienced, registered specialist equine surgeon to step into a senior leadership position.
This is more than a surgical position. Applicants must be omnicompetent and comfortable with all aspects of equine veterinary medicine. You should be able to deal with the daily clinical challenges that present and be familiar with the day to day running of a busy equine hospital. This role represents a unique opportunity to join a well-established and reputable facility known for delivering high-calibre surgical and medical care to both commercial and pleasure horse clients across the state.
The hospital operates as both a referral and first-opinion centre and boasts a multidisciplinary team of 10 to 13 veterinarians (depending on the season), including board-certified specialists in surgery and reproduction. Supported by a comprehensive surgical suite and state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment facilities, the caseload spans a broad range of equine disciplines.
The hospital offers a comprehensive range of services and advanced facilities, including orthopaedic procedures such as arthroscopy, fracture repair, and joint injury management. It also handles complex soft tissue surgeries, including colic operations, dystocia interventions, airway procedures, and wound management. Laparoscopic and other minimally invasive techniques are routinely performed, while the medical team provides intensive care for neonates and manages a wide variety of high-dependency cases. Additionally, the hospital is well-regarded for its thorough lameness evaluations and poor performance investigations, catering to both primary care and referral clients. The hospital also provides stud medicine services to some of Victoria’s leading Thoroughbred and Standardbred operations, combining in-clinic and on-farm veterinary care.
