As a Senior Lawyer within the Commercial Law team, you will be expected to provide advice on a broad range of issues to support the Department of Social Services (DSS) in the lawful delivery and administration of its various commercial arrangements.
Reporting to the Principal Lawyer, the Senior Lawyer has the following key responsibilities:
* provide strategic, practical and technically sound legal advice to DSS, that supports the lawful delivery of DSS’ activities and that identifies and assesses legal risks
* draft high quality documents including briefs, contracts, grant agreements, deeds, agreements and correspondence
* support Principal Lawyers to build the legal capability of Junior Lawyers and to influence a positive team culture
* work collegiately within the Legal Services Branch to effectively respond to high priority legal work
* develop and maintain collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, and
* procure and manage external legal providers and assist external legal counsel to facilitate the smooth progression of advice and litigation.
