* Lead and mentor a dynamic team of engineers.
* Drive improvements in project delivery, from procurement to refurbishment and execution.
* Be part of one of Australia's leading renewable energy providers.

With over 30,000 people having contributed to building, maintaining, and refurbishing hydropower infrastructure across Tasmania over 100 years, we've established ourselves as a reliable partner for powering the state's communities. We are now looking ahead to a series of major refurbishments of our power stations across the state, in line with our Major Works program.

We welcome applications from all members of our community and are committed to equitable access to our employment opportunities. We're open to discussing workplace flexibility to ensure we can attract the best candidates and accommodate individual needs, differences, disabilities, and working arrangements.

About The Role

To put it simply… As the Team Lead Mechanical Engineering, you'll be responsible for leading a team of mechanical engineers to deliver world-class engineering solutions for Hydro Tasmania's power generation infrastructure. In this leadership role, you'll be focused on leading small project teams, providing strategic direction for project delivery, and ensuring the successful delivery of our major works program.

In this Team Lead position in the Major Works team, you will:

Main Responsibilities:

1. Oversee and mentor a team of engineers, providing leadership, guidance, and fostering a culture of engagement.
2. Coordinate and manage team resources, ensuring priorities and workloads align with project goals.
3. Lead the execution of major refurbishment projects, providing oversight from initial planning through to final completion.
4. Collaborate with key stakeholders, including project managers, site-based leadership teams, contractors, and other disciplines of engineering teams to ensure project success.
5. Mentor and guide engineers, ensuring knowledge transfer and continuous professional development.
6. Lead efforts to address skills gaps, process improvements, and project documentation challenges.

You have an experienced background in Mechanical Engineering, strong leadership skills, and a passion for team development. You hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and have a minimum of 7 years of experience, ideally in power generation or with large-scale rotating machinery.

You bring specialised knowledge in NDT methods, FEA and CAD, welding inspection, and hydraulic systems, as well as experience leading significant projects from planning and procurement through to delivery and operation, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.

Your leadership experience includes mentoring engineers and fostering high-performance teams to drive successful project outcomes.

This is a unique opportunity to travel and experience some of the most breathtaking locations in the state. You'll be working alongside a supportive team of industry experts, fostering both collaboration and continuous professional development.

We value flexibility and understand it means different things to different people—so we're open to discussions on what this looks like for you. We also offer a range of employee perks, ensuring there's something for everyone. This includes generous parental leave, electricity discounts, and access to vehicles for seamless travel between our sites.

This role is not just a job—it's an opportunity to grow your career while being part of a team that makes a real impact.

We're also a proud endorsed employer for women, with inclusive policies and support available via our Work180 profile: www.work180.com/en-au/for-women/employer/hydro-tasmania
