About the Role
Reporting to the Production Manager, you will take ownership of the day-to-day workshop plan and lead our team of boilermakers, welders, apprentices and labourers. Working in a fast-paced structural steel environment, you will set priorities, allocate labour, manage short‐term and longer‐term delivery targets, and keep production moving to critical dates.
You will be a strong "player‐coach" leader who builds accountability, motivates performance and creates a positive team culture. You will work closely with project, commercial, quality and supply teams to remove constraints, solve problems early and keep jobs on track.
Responsibilities
* Lead the workshop production plan, sequencing work and allocating resources effectively.
* Build a clear, accountable and high‐performing team culture.
* Coach, support and develop the workshop team through regular communication and follow‐up including a daily pre‐start meeting.
* Drive safety leadership, compliance and a strong "Safety First, Quality Always" mindset.
* Champion quality, manage defects early and ensure work is completed right the first time.
* Coordinate job flow, materials, drawings, plant and labour to maintain productivity.
* Monitor output, rework, waste, utilisation, costs and programme performance.
* Work with stakeholders to resolve issues, manage risks and support successful delivery.
* Approve timesheets, manage leave and ensure fatigue is considered in workforce planning.
About You
* Strong knowledge of welding QA, fabrication standards and structural steel. Ideally you are a trade qualified Boilermaker and have progressed to Workshop Supervisor or similar role.
* Highly organised with excellent problem‐solving and decision‐making skills.
* Exceptional leadership skills, able to motivate, mentor, and hold others accountable to deliver successful project outcomes.
* Excellent communication, planning and organisation skills.
* A practical, solutions‐focused mindset with a strong sense of urgency.
* Confidence using Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
* A Construction White Card and driver's licence.
* Qualifications within AS1796 Certificate 10 or IW‐B (preferred).
* Note that the successful candidate may need to undergo a pre‐employment medical check.
