About the Role

The Head of Policy provides leadership, vision, direction and structure to the Policy team. In collaboration with the General Manager and Stakeholder Relations & Policy leadership team, the role contributes to the development of the Stakeholder Relations & Policy business plan. The role drives the execution of icare’s Strategic Priorities relating to: shaping icare’s policy position across all scheme related matters.

Duties

* Develop and lead a high performing policy team that has a clear vision, strategy, and plan for building the overall policy capability of icare.
* Drive the development and implementation of the policy programs for monitoring internal and external environment, predicting impacts on schemes of changes in stakeholder positions and policies, taking a confident and forthright approach to icare’s interests, and developing positions that will help to positively shape the industry. This role leads a team that supports policy matters across all schemes.
* Support the effective implementation of the enterprise-wide scheme policy frameworks and policies across the icare business.
* Provide information and advice to the General Manager Stakeholder Relations & Policy on the evaluation of policy to identify gaps and to strengthen controls.
* Undertake activities in order to stay up to date with industry matters, in order to be a thought-leader for industry policy.
* Support the business to identify policy gaps and weaknesses.
* Plan and oversee policy discussions, bringing relevant stakeholders together to form and agree on policy positions to strengthen and support icare’s interests.
* Research and provide input into the frameworks, policies and procedures to ensure they reflect industry best practice for a robust policy environment.
* Coach and guide business leaders to ensure they are suitably equipped to manage and control policy responses in their area of accountability and that a consistent approach to risk mitigation is adopted across the business and recommend improvements to business operations where necessary.
* Engage with and foster external relationships to ensure effective engagement with the icare business model.
* Develop relationships with business leaders to influence and foster a risk aware culture.



Skills & Experience

* 8+ years’ experience in a policy development related discipline within a commercially driven public sector environment, or an insurance or regulatory environment.
* Highly developed communication skills.
* Well-developed understanding of enterprise policy management.
* Extensive experience building rapport and influence at all levels of an organisation.
* Demonstrated ability to influence external stakeholders for the interests of the organization and broader industry.
* Developed understanding of business risk and mitigation strategies and assurance frameworks.
* A broad range of experience in risk or compliance assurance either in audit, compliance, or risk management.
