The Employer & the Role Our clients own a family-run dairy farm situated just a ten-minute drive from the lovely country town of Gloucester in NSW. The farm spans 2,000 acres, with 800 acres dedicated to irrigated crops such as cereals, hay, and permanent pastures. They manage a Holstein herd of 750 dairy cows, which are milked twice daily, along with a total herd of around 1,600 cattle. With year-round calving, the farm produces an impressive 7 million litres of milk each year using a 30-a-side herringbone dairy setup. They are currently seeking a herd manager to work alongside a senior herd manager. In this position, you will oversee and collaborate with a dedicated team of 18 staff members. Along with the senior herd manager, your responsibilities will include ensuring the health, welfare, and productivity of the dairy herd, as well as handling daily operations. Key responsibilities for this role include overseeing milking processes, managing feeding schedules, coordinating reproduction efforts, supervising staff, and monitoring pastures and general farm maintenance. This position is essential for achieving the farm's goals related to milk quality, animal welfare, overall herd performance, and pasture management. You will be just two hours from Newcastle and three hours from Sydney. The Ideal Candidate Prior experience in a similar role is desired along with the following skills and attributes Current AI certificate Strong animal health knowledge and ability to assess livestock condition Experience in pasture management Competent in record keeping using software such as EasyDairy Willingness to supervise and train staff in animal handling and welfare. Reliable, proactive and able to lead by example in safety, animal care, and work ethic.
