This pivotal role will deliver innovative, best‐practice infrastructure solutions that directly support the growth and liveability of Townsville. You will oversee the detailed design of renewal, upgrade and new civil projects, ensuring exceptional outcomes for our community and contributing to the long‐term capital works vision.
As a technical leader, you will provide expert guidance, supervision and RPEQ sign‐off, champion Safety in Design, and foster a high‐performance culture built on collaboration, continuous improvement and shared success. You will shape and maintain civil design standards, manage cost estimates, and work closely with multidisciplinary asset teams including stormwater, open space, water and wastewater, to deliver integrated, community‐centred infrastructure.
The role also includes engaging external consultants, ensuring procurement compliance, and delivering design solutions that reflect Council's values and strategic priorities.

Qualifications And Experience
You'll bring a Civil Engineering degree and RPEQ registration (or be able to obtain it within 12 months), supported by substantial experience in the design, maintenance and operation of transport, traffic and civil infrastructure.
With a strong track record of leading teams, you know how to bring people together, build capability and support others to do their best work. Your deep understanding of design principles, guidelines, environmental requirements and civil planning helps you deliver practical, well‐informed outcomes that meet community needs.
You communicate confidently, negotiate effectively with stakeholders and produce clear, high‐quality written work. You're organised, proactive and comfortable working within project management, procurement and contracting frameworks. Your knowledge of pavement design, material selection including sustainable and recycled options and construction practices ensures you create durable, cost‐effective assets.
