We're looking for an experienced and passionate professional to join our Equipment Safety team in a critical role that directly impacts the safety of individuals, families, workplaces and communities across Queensland.

As a Principal Inspector (Equipment Safety) within the Electrical Safety Office (ESO), you'll play a key role in protecting Queenslanders by ensuring electrical equipment is safe at every stage — from design, manufacturing and supplying to installation, usage and disposal.

What You'll Be Doing

* Support the Equipment Safety team to develop the regulatory strategy, framework and operations for the Electrical Equipment Safety System (EESS) to ensure electrical equipment safety outcomes meet stakeholder and public expectations and the purposes of the Electrical Safety Act 2002.
* Conduct audits of Recognised External Certification Schemes to ensure certified electrical equipment is electrically safety.
* Provide high quality, timely advice across a range of electrical equipment safety policy, legislative and operational strategies to the Electrical Safety Office and other stakeholders, including manufacturers, suppliers, importers, certifiers and consumers of electrical equipment.
* Lead or support compliance and enforcement activities, including cathodic protection system assessments and court proceedings where required.
* Contribute to investigations of unsafe or non-compliant electrical equipment — from defective appliances to equipment linked to electrical fires.
* Drive improvements in equipment safety through education, development of materials, presentations and engagement at industry forums.
* Support the development of legislation, standards and strategies in line with emerging technologies like renewables and smart systems.

What We Offer

* A permanent full-time opportunity in a respected government regulatory agency.
* Competitive salary + up to 12.75% employer superannuation.
* A collaborative and values-driven culture focused on protecting Queenslanders.
* Professional development opportunities and flexible working arrangements.
* A chance to make a tangible difference to public safety and industry standards.

About You
You're a strategic thinker with a technical mindset and a passion for public safety.

You thrive in a collaborative environment and can balance multiple initiatives while influencing positive change. Ideally, you have:

* Experience in the application of the safety principles of electrical equipment and evaluating test reports and examining equipment for compliance with Australian Standards and Queensland legislative requirements.
* For this role, qualifications, knowledge, and experience in electrical engineering or a closely related field are considered essential for effective performance.
* Experience auditing test reports and working within the supply chain or regulatory frameworks.
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex technical content into clear, actionable advice, particularly with members of the public.
* The ability to continue to learn and apply new ideas and innovations.

How To Apply
Please submit your resume and your responses to the Three (3) questions stated in the position description.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
