Description
Mona is seeking an Assistant Registrar to join our Art Management team on a maximum term engagement of 12 months. The Museum of Old and New Art challenges conventions through its eclectic and provocative collection, and behind every exhibition and acquisition is a registration team that keeps it all moving with precision and care. This role sits at the heart of that work, supporting both the Collections and Exhibitions Registrars across a broad range of collection, loan and exhibition activity.
The Gig:
* Assist the Collections Registrar with the acquisition of new works into Mona's collection, including artwork files, unpacking notes and installation manuals.
* Respond to copyright enquiries and assist with artwork cataloguing and related documentation, including object parting and packing units.
* Provide support to the Exhibitions Registrar during exhibition changeover periods, including receiving and dispatching freight and documenting the packing and installation of artworks.
* Assist with the photography of Mona's collection, including generating artwork lists from Vernon CMS, preparing schedules and art handling.
* Coordinate and supervise object movements between Mona's sites, tracking location changes and related activities in Vernon CMS.
* Provide administrative support for the Registration and Art Management teams, including processing invoices and taking meeting minutes.
* Participate in the functional enhancement of Vernon CMS and collection management systems, contribute to collection inventories and engage with exhibition and collection working groups.
The You:
* Prior experience in a museum-based registration role, with a solid understanding of the museum landscape and how registration functions within it.
* Cultural sector tertiary qualifications, or equivalent knowledge acquired through professional experience.
* Considerable knowledge of Vernon CMS and museum artwork cataloguing standards, including collection management principles and procedures.
* A working understanding of freight procedures and logistics for the movement of artworks, both within Mona and externally.
* Familiarity with copyright and licensing principles as they apply to cultural collections.
* Composed under pressure, accurate under demand, and genuinely invested in process integrity.
