This is a permanent, full-time position commencing in January ****.
Interviews will be conducted during the week commencing 8 December ****.
The Legal and Legislative Services Directorate provides advice to the Department on legal and legislative matters, including sensitive legal issues, complaints, administrative law, legislation, insurance and claims.
Responsibilities The Senior Legal Officer will provide high-quality strategic legal advice and information to the General Counsel, Director General, Corporate Executive, State Solicitor's Office and stakeholders.
Responsibilities include: Monitoring and researching complex legal issues that may impact the education sector and reporting accordingly.
Assisting the General Counsel with reviewing and developing legislation, including drafting and amending legislation.
Coordinating complex legal cases, including matters related to child sexual abuse, coronial inquiries, discrimination, and negligence.
Building effective relationships and liaising at a senior management level with the State Solicitor's Office and other key stakeholders.

Eligibility Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.
Be admitted to practice law in Western Australia.
