About the role We are looking for an Associate and a Senior Associate level lawyer (2-6y PAE) with demonstrated front-end drafting experience in construction, procurement or commercial matters (ideally all three) and/or demonstrated litigation experience. All of our lawyers are encouraged to work on both front-end drafting matters and back-end dispute matters, and we are recruiting for one predominantly front-end position (~70% front-end work) and one predominantly back-end position (~70% back-end work).
The successful candidates will manage matters autonomously under the supervision of our Principals and Senior Associates, and supported by our Associates, Lawyers, Graduates and Clerks. We expect our Associates and Senior Associates to proactively support and develop our Lawyers, Graduates and Clerks and to work collaboratively with our other Associates, our Senior Associates and our Principals where necessary for the task or matter.
Main duties and responsibilities Matters which the successful candidate will work on include:
(For the front-end role) developing contract and procurement documentation for principals (including governments), contractors, subcontractors, consultants and suppliers (including for some of Queensland's largest local government projects); developing suites of template contract and procurement documents for government clients, developers and contractors; undertaking contract reviews for legislative changes or other updates necessitating change to template documents; negotiating contracts, including dealing with departures and face-to-face negotiations; providing advice on contract administration, procurement requirements, probity issues and other major project related legal advice; and assisting with dispute matters, including litigious matters, as required. (For the back-end role) managing major litigation matters in QLD and NSW Supreme Courts and Courts of Appeal; drafting statements of evidence and submissions, briefing barristers and undertaking Court appearances; engaging in alternative dispute resolution processes, including mediation, arbitration and expert determination; managing complex adjudication matters in all jurisdictions in Australia; drafting correspondence to facilitate litigation or dispute resolution; drafting deeds of settlement, deeds of release and ancillary documents to record agreements achieved; and assisting with front-end drafting matters as required. The successful candidate will be able to work well within our team, delegate appropriate tasks, support, teach and nurture junior staff to develop their skills and knowledge, foster and maintain positive and collaborative working relationships with team members and clients and deliver excellent legal work.
