We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Engineer (V6) with a strong Temporary Works background to support major project delivery in Suffolk. You will take responsibility for leading engineering activities across a defined section of works, bringing sound technical judgement, commercial awareness and the confidence to make informed decisions. You will often work within a broader engineering team but may also lead independently on smaller projects or packages. Temporary Works expertise will be central to your role — ensuring solutions are safe, compliant, well designed and fully integrated into construction methodology.
Temporary Works Leadership
* Lead Temporary Works coordination for your section, ensuring compliance with design, safety and procedural requirements.
* Challenge information, identify risk, propose solutions and drive safe, efficient buildability.
* Liaise with Temporary Works Designers, consultants and subcontractors to develop and approve engineering solutions.
* Anticipate engineering issues early and proactively resolve them to minimise disruption.
Engineering Delivery
* Develop construction methodologies, with clear understanding of the critical path and wider project impacts.
* Manage the engineering input across your work area, delegating tasks effectively and mentoring junior engineers.
* Evaluate completed work and recommend improvements for future stages.
* Contribute to BIM Level 2 processes and promote high quality data management.
Health, Safety & Environment
* Ensure all works, including Temporary Works, are delivered safely through robust RAMS and ongoing review.
* Manage subcontractors and suppliers to maintain a strong safety culture.
* Support project carbon reduction goals through efficient and sustainable engineering practices.
Project & Commercial Management
* Plan and manage engineering activities to ensure progress remains on target.
* Assist in cost estimating for work packages and produce accurate engineering records and site documentation.
* Influence resource planning and contribute to effective project lifecycle management.
Person Specification
* Strong, demonstrable experience in Temporary Works within major civil engineering projects.
* Confidence in making engineering decisions with awareness of safety, commercial and programme considerations.
* Ability to lead engineering activities and mentor junior team members.
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills — able to work with designers, consultants, clients and subcontractors.
* Knowledge of BIM Level 2 principles and digital information management.
* A proactive approach to problem solving, continuous improvement and innovation.
* Relevant qualifications (e.g., MEng/BEng in Civil Engineering, ICE progression) are desirable.
