Job Description YOUR ROLE The Finance function at MACS provides critical support to schools and the MACS Office through the delivery of high-quality financial services, including budgeting, financial reporting, capital project financial management, compliance, shared services, and treasury management. Leveraging financial expertise, the team ensures cost-effective, compliant, and strategically aligned financial operations that meet the diverse needs of schools. By centralising financial processes, MACS enables schools to operate more efficiently, maintain strong financial controls, and fulfil their reporting and regulatory obligations, enhancing overall financial stewardship and supporting MACS’s commitment to transparency and accountability across all stakeholders. Reporting to the Financial Planning and Analysis Manager, the Accountant – Capital Projects is responsible for end-to-end accounting requirements for capital projects across new and existing schools, including capital payment approvals, project cashflow monitoring, and capital project funding acquittals. WHAT YOU WILL DO Manage and monitor capital expenditure and purchase order approvals in line with delegated authority and MACS financial governance requirements. Partner with Shared Services, Infrastructure, and project teams to ensure accurate, up-to-date financial information and timely processing of capital project invoices and payments. Prepare and coordinate large capital payments, including supporting documentation, stakeholder engagement, and tracking approvals through content management systems. Monitor and report on capital project cashflows, including project setup, spend tracking, loan drawdowns, and funding applications (e.g. Supplementary Capital Fund), ensuring alignment with approved budgets. Support capital project acquittals, financial reporting, compliance, and continuous improvement of processes, while contributing financial insights to stakeholders across the project lifecycle. ABOUT YOU Strong technical accounting capability, with proven experience in capital and/or project accounting within a complex or regulated environment. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with experience using or willingness to learn additional tools and technologies (e.g. Power BI, VBA or similar). Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including non-financial audiences. High level of attention to detail and accuracy, supported by strong organisational and documentation skills. Excellent time management and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and deliver high-quality outcomes. Proven ability to work autonomously while also contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment and across multiple stakeholder groups.
