Position: APS4 Accounts Payable Officer
Location: Canberra
Start date: ASAP
Duration: approx. 4 months with the potential to extend
Pay rate: $53.07 plus 12% superannuation
ABOUT THE ROLE
A Federal Government department is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounts Payable Officer to join their Financial Operations team. This position will contribute to the delivery of high-quality accounts payable services, supporting financial governance through accurate processing, reconciliation, and customer service. The role offers an opportunity to work in a supportive, fast-paced team focused on continuous improvement and customer-focused results.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Participate in day-to-day accounts payable functions including account processing, invoicing, reconciliations, records management, and quality assurance
* Provide excellent customer service, including responding to enquiries and providing timely, factual advice
* Assist customers in understanding relevant legislation, policy, and procedures
* Support quality assurance and assessments to ensure accuracy of payments
* Work collaboratively within the team to maintain professional standards and practices
* Manage competing priorities to meet performance targets and deliver high-quality service
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
* Minimum 2 years' experience in Accounts Payable
* Knowledge of the PGPA Act and Whole of Government financial frameworks
* Strong attention to detail with excellent numerical and problem-solving skills
* Proven written and verbal communication skills and ability to engage with diverse clients
* Customer-focused with strong empathy and willingness to assist
* Flexible and positive attitude, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
