Offer description

Thermal Engineer
We are seeking a motivated and technically capable Thermal Engineer to support the development of new products utilising VHD, a revolutionary new material with exceptional thermal properties.
In this dynamic role, you will leverage your knowledge of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, materials science, and modern manufacturing to create innovative thermal management solutions for applications in high-performance computing, power electronics, and aerospace.
Reporting to the Principal Thermal Engineer and located at our Sydney office, you will play a key role in building a new line of impactful products with an accelerated path to market.
This is a unique opportunity to rapidly design, prototype, test and optimise new products, and see them move quickly from conceptualisation to commercial deployment.
Success in this role requires strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, scientists, and manufacturing specialists.
You should be comfortable tackling complex, open-ended engineering challenges with creativity, curiosity, and practical problem-solving ability to develop novel solutions that make the most of VHD's unique properties.
Key Responsibilities
Design thermal management systems and components based on VHD products
Perform thermal modelling, simulation, and analysis to optimise product performance
Create detailed CAD models, assemblies, BOMs, and engineering drawings
Support prototype fabrication, testing, validation, and iterative design improvement
Collaborate closely with GCM's production team and manufacturing partners to ensure the manufacturability, reliability, and performance of new products
Contribute to documentation (technical data sheets, specifications, white papers), participate in design reviews, and support continuous improvement initiatives
Stay up to date with relevant technical publications to implement best practices
Required Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical engineering is preferred, however we encourage applicants with a strong understanding of heat transfer from other engineering disciplines to apply)
2–5 years of work experience in engineering R&D or product development teams
Strong understanding of thermal engineering (e.g., conduction, convection, radiation, contact resistance, conjugate heat transfer, and thermodynamics)
Proficiency with mechanical design software (CAD e.g., Inventor, SolidWorks)
Strong analytical skills and basic data analysis techniques
Excellent communication skills, with demonstrated experience preparing concise technical reports and delivering verbal presentations
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
Experience with design for manufacture (DFM), geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and preparing mechanical engineering drawings compliant with ISO standards
Experience with computational fluid dynamics or finite element modelling (e.g., COMSOL, ANSYS)
Knowledge of high performance computing/data centre hardware including CPUs/GPUs, cooling systems, server racks, and enclosures
Expertise in electronics packaging, heat sink design, thermal cycling effects, bonding and thermal interface materials
About GCM Corporation
