DWF is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join our Construction & Infrastructure team in Brisbane on a temporary basis.
This role supports lawyers acting on major construction and engineering matters across Australia, specifically QLD.
You will work closely with partners and lawyers on both front-end and back-end construction work, supporting matters involving roads, buildings, bridges and other large-scale infrastructure projects.
We offer hybrid working, with all your technology needs provided for.
This is a hands‐on role supporting a busy practice that advises both principals/owners and contractors across the full project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
We are looking for a Legal Assistant who understands how construction projects operate in practice, not just on paper.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
Supporting lawyers on front-end construction matters, including:
* Drafting, amending and formatting construction contracts and related documentation
* Assisting with contract administration and project documentation
Supporting Back-end Construction Disputes, Including:
* Matter management for disputes relating to delays, variations, extensions of time and additional costs
* Assisting with arbitration, adjudication and court proceedings
* Preparing briefs, chronologies, document bundles and court materials
* General legal assistant duties such as billing, file management, diary management and correspondence
Qualifications
You Will Ideally Have
* Previous experience as a Legal Assistant supporting construction, infrastructure or disputes teams
* Strong understanding of construction contracts and dispute processes
* Exposure to arbitration, adjudication or litigation processes
* A background or prior experience in the construction industry (e.g. engineering, scaffolding, site-based roles or construction administration) is highly regarded
* Excellent attention to detail and document management skills
* Confidence working in a fast‐paced, technically complex practice
