This is a Fixed term opportunity to 30 June 2027 with the possibility of extension and permanencyThe Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) is seeking an experienced and motivated leader to fill the role of Senior Manager – Nature Planning.In this key leadership position, you will manage a team dedicated to improving environmental data and information to support evidence-based regulatory decisions. This includes overseeing the development of the WA Vegetation Extent (WAVE) mapping system and other projects that strengthen the understanding and stewardship of Western Australia's native vegetation and biodiversity.As part of DWER's senior management team, you will also contribute to the strategic direction and performance of the Nature Directorate.Key ResponsibilitiesLead a team to deliver high-quality environmental data and strategic products that support regulatory decision-making and improved environmental outcomes.Manage and maintain partnerships across government, academia, industry, and community stakeholders.Provide mentoring and support to scientific and policy staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.Represent DWER at interagency forums, conferences, and workshops, contributing to biodiversity policy development and reform.Communicate and promote policy initiatives effectively through briefings, workshops, and stakeholder engagement.Ensure branch outcomes are aligned with departmental strategic goals and are delivered on time and within budget.Support directorate-wide initiatives and uphold ethical, safe, and inclusive work practices.About YouTo be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:Strong knowledge of Western Australian environmental legislation, policies, and government processes.Extensive experience in strategic environmental policy and delivering evidence-based technical advice.High-level communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across a wide range of stakeholders.Proven project management capability with a track record of delivering complex initiatives.Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to develop and motivate high-performing teams.Desirable: A tertiary qualification in environmental science, policy, or a related field.
