This is a full-time, permanent role for a candidate with broadacre cropping experience that extends beyond typical grain production and supports the farm's integrated feed and livestock systems.About the RoleThis role is ideal for a cropping professional involved in the planning, management, and production of a variety of broadacre crops including grains, legumes, hay, and pasture, especially where these crops support vertically integrated animal production systems.
The successful candidate will work across multiple phases of the production cycle and contribute to both feed security and cropping profitability.Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesAs per the ANZSCO classification 121599 - Crop Farmers nec, and in alignment with Hillcroft Farms' operations, the duties will include:Planning and managing the cultivation of crops not limited to cereals, including pasture crops, legumes, oilseeds, and fodder for livestockOperating and maintaining broadacre machinery including seeders, sprayers, harvesters, spreaders, and loadersMonitoring soil conditions, crop development, pest and disease pressures, and implementing corrective actionsCoordinating planting, irrigation, spraying, fertiliser applications, and harvest activities in a timely and productive mannerEnsuring proper storage and handling of harvested crops and inputs such as fertilisers, seed, and chemicalsManaging crop rotations and soil health programs to maximise long-term sustainability and yieldRecording and analysing cropping data including yield, input usage, and environmental conditionsSupervising seasonal workers and coordinating day-to-day on-farm cropping operationsEnsuring all practices meet WHS, environmental, and biosecurity regulationsSkills, Qualifications, and ExperienceTo be eligible for this position, applicants must meet one of the following:Hold a relevant bachelor's degree or higher qualification (e.g. Agronomy, Crop Science, Agricultural Production); ORHave at least 5 years of full-time (38+ hours/week) experience in broadacre crop production; ORHave a combination of relevant experience and formal training deemed equivalent under Australian standardsAdditional RequirementsDemonstrated experience in the operation and maintenance of modern broadacre cropping equipmentSound knowledge of cropping systems, plant nutrition, and sustainable farming practicesAbility to work with precision agriculture technologies (e.g. GPS guidance systems, field mapping)Familiarity with regulatory compliance including chemical handling, WHS, and environmental stewardshipGood record-keeping and organisational skillsAbility to supervise and train farmhands and seasonal workersA current manual driver's licence is required; machinery or loader tickets are desirableWhat's on OfferA competitive full-time salary of $70,000 - $85,000 AUD per annum, depending on experiencePermanent role within a progressive and diversified farming businessOpportunity to manage a variety of cropping operations and contribute to integrated livestock productionExposure to modern equipment, techniques, and professional development opportunitiesSupportive team environment located in a thriving regional areaNote: This description is intended for suitable candidates and reflects the current role as described.
