Opportunity
The School of Media, Film and Journalism is seeking to appoint an Associate Professor (Level D) or Professor (Level E) of Film and Screen to provide leadership and foster excellence in research, teaching, and professional engagement. This role will drive the School's strategic vision, strengthen research culture, and advance its influence within the academic community, industry, and broader society.
The role provides academic leadership through delivering lectures, tutorials, workshops, and practical sessions, developing and coordinating course materials, supervising postgraduate and PhD students, and conducting original research that produces high-quality publications and secures competitive grants. At Level E, you will also lead curriculum development, mentor early-career researchers, and foster strategic national and international industry, community, and academic partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver lectures, tutorials, workshops and practical sessions on film and screen subjects.
Develop and coordinate course materials and assess student learning outcomes.
Supervise and mentor postgraduate and PhD students.
Produce original research of international standing and publish in high-impact journals.
Secure competitive research funding and manage research projects.
Lead curriculum development and maintain industry, community and academic partnerships.
Qualifications and Experience
PhD or equivalent in Film Studies, Media Studies or related field.
Demonstrated record of high-quality teaching and curriculum development.
Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
Experience in securing external research funding.
Evidence of mentoring and supervising postgraduate students.
Expertise in one or more of the following: environmental and screen studies, streaming platforms, or screen and cultural diversity.
For Level D: advanced leadership, mentorship and engagement within the discipline nationally and internationally.
For Level E: executive leadership, success in generating research income, and ability to cultivate sustained industry, community and global academic partnerships.
